Artist Statement 2025

In my work, I combine shared elements from both Eastern and Western ancient culture and mythology, merging contemporary medical and anatomical imagery, to create a surreal healing space that evokes collective human memory. I’ve been fascinated by archaeology and ancient myth since a young age.  Around the world, antiques found in ancient tombs reflect a similar worldview— a deep, timeless connection between the inner body and the outer cosmos that reflects the perception of life. These beliefs, rooted in ancient cultures and mythologies, continue to inspire my work.  In this way, I aim to encourage viewers to reconsider their perceptions of the body and psyche, especially within the growing tensions brought on by globalization and multiculturalism.

In my paintings, I blend the materiality of Western oil painting with the technique of traditional Chinese brushwork. Influenced by surrealism and expressionism, I layer various densities of paint to define form and space. At the same time, I incorporate the Multi-Point Perspective of Chinese landscape painting to create narrative flow in my work. Gestural calligraphic lines shape physical form, movement, and space. This synthesis of East and West enables me to create a world where fictional characters are revitalized with boundless vitality.
